Maxine Bell, House of Representatives
Idaho Legislature
Joint Finance Appropriation Committee |
This special recognition honors an individual who has supported and championed professional-technical education in Idaho.
Representative Maxine Bell is the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and therefore co-chair of the Joint Finance and Appropriation committee – a position she shares with Senator Cameron. In that role she has played a key role in providing the necessary funding for PTE programs. Representative Bell has always treated our requests with utmost respect and concern. She was personally responsible for replacing funding for Idaho’s Center’s for New Directions when those programs lost their federal support.
Representative Bell’s influence goes well beyond the Appropriations Committee and the legislature. She and her husband Jack operated a farm and were active in many agriculturally-related activities. She has also had leadership roles within the American Farm Bureau Federation, serving on the Board of Directors; and within the Farm Bureau Women, serving as vice-chairperson for 18 years.
Representative Bell has also had significant international experience, participating on a trade mission to China, Japan and South Korea. She worked with farmers in the Ukraine to teach women how to organize, lobby, and do business planning. During that effort, she taught a number of workshops to a variety of different groups. She also assisted in fundraising efforts to build a cannery in the Ukraine.
Representative Bell has been recognized for her efforts by the Soil Conservation Districts, Farm Bureau, CoOps, The Idaho Library Association the FFA and received the President's medallion at Idaho State University. |
