DECA members organize into chapters around courses, programs of study, academies or other forms of career and technical education programs that are engaged in preparing high school and college students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
A teacher, instructor or professor advises chapters in one or more of the content areas. This close connection to the curriculum is the key ingredient in being able to integrate DECA activities into the classroom, apply the classroom experience to project based activities, connect to business partners at all levels and utilize competition to improve their performance.
Chapters are organized into state or provencial associations providing additional extended learning opportunities. State and provincial associations provide a gateway to regional, national and international resources and competition and thereby prepare members to compete in a global economy.
DECA members benefit from activities in DECA's Comprehensive Learning Program. In addition to an official membership card and pin, DECA members receive four issues of Dimensions magazine, have opportunities to attend conferences designed to prepare them for college and careers, can earn recognition and prove their knowledge in DECA's Competitive Events Program, can earn their share of more than $300,000 in scholarships and more.
