STUDENT SELECTION PROCESS
Students wishing to enter technical programs can prosper from an application process similar to that of a "real world" application and interview. With this in mind it is recommended that a formal student selection process be followed when feasible:
Student Should:
- Complete student program application.
- Complete a Career Plan (required since 1999 in Idaho).
- Attend a Construction Orientation session with parents or guardian.
- Have a guidance counselor review and sign their current updated four-year education plan showing the Construction Program.
- Complete program prerequisites and demonstrate technical education entrance requirements.
- A composite score of X% or above on nationally normed exam, such as ITBS - or - TAP.
- A portfolio including but not limited to a personal essay outlining educational goals, current transcript, a record of attendance, letters of recommendation, (from a business and/or education), work samples, personal projects, and a parental/guardian letter of permission.
- Interview with the instructor, guidance counselor and a member of the Program Advisory Committee. This final interview might want to occur at the high school on one or two evenings prior to final registration in the spring. Pre-arranged questions should be determined and divided among the interviewers. A point scoring system taking into account all the application procedures might be helpful in case of student applicants appearing alike.
