CPM Overview

What is the Idaho Certified Public Manager Program?

The Idaho Certified Public Manager (CPM) program is a nationally accredited training and development program for public sector managers and supervisors in Idaho. It is a comprehensive course of study by which public managers can acquire and apply the best practices and theory to their management behaviors and strategies using a prescribed set of professional standards. The program consists of 5 levels totaling 300 hours of study to be completed over 36 months.

The goals of the Idaho CPM Program are:

  • To strengthen organizational performance by improving the effectiveness of Idaho's public managers;

  • To recognize and promote public management as a profession;

  • To provide a course of study by which public management principles and skills can be acquired and applied;

  • To provide access to such training and education to Idaho's public managers;

  • To establish an objective assessment of a public manager's professional knowledge and performance; and

  • To establish a standard by which public managers can be recognized.

Eligibility

Idaho CPM Program applicants are chosen on the basis of individual abilities and aptitudes in concert with the following criteria:

  1. Be employed by an Idaho government organization; and

  2. Hold one of the following positions:

    • A supervisor or management position; or

    • A program management position responsible for technical or professional support to the agency; or

    • Be identified by the agency as an individual showing potential for advancement to such position; and

  3. Receive the endorsement of an immediate supervisor, administrator or director; and

  4. Commit to complete requirements for certification;

  5. Complete Applied Leadership 1-4.

The Division of Professional-Technical Education determines participants for the Idaho CPM Program based on the criteria of:

  • Agency's priority of their candidates;

  • Qualifications of candidates;

  • Available slots; and

  • Equitable distribution among agencies.

To Apply

All applications must be turned in to your agency HR office or designated CPM Coordinator who will submit them to The Division of Professional-Technical Education when a new track is announced.
